Updated: CES 2014: Devices and Technologies

Even if most of the Tech websites expressed some disappointment about the announcements coming up on CES 2014, I tried to bring up some news about products coming to market soon. So to sum up: 4 k TV and even PC screens made a lot of noise, even if I doubt them to become market dominance, soon. They may be coming to the PC space sooner than in to the TV set. TV innnovations besides 4k were focussing on the UI. The two most important announcements were the Roku TV, which means Roku software becomes part of the generic UI and WebOS on LG TV sets, offering a new user experience to control the TV channels and the smart TV functions. Low cost smartphones open up the next price barriers. Prices even for high quality brand fall below 100 USD. This will make feature phones completely obsolete. Lots of wearable announcements. Nearly every well known brand in sports or consumer electronics now offers a least a wristband or similar tracking devices. Not to forget the  smart socks . Sm

Updated: CES 2014 Connected Home Snippets

As there is much fuzz going around on new connected home features I tried to collect them on this page. First is on Samsung's Connected Home Demo including the use of the  Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Next to come is Qualcomms CES promo Archos seems to be also trying to get into the connected home. The connected objects clip contains a lot of smart home devices including a weather station. SmartThings again showed their vision of the connected home in their own home. Finally I found one of the first Belkin WeMo LED demo videos. Was not an easy one. Not from the show, but with some animation and app demo. Published by USAtoday. To complete the WeMo sory, I just found a German interview on the actual product line. Enjoy (all the non Germans, please forgive, but the pictures should speak for themself ;-) ). And for our English only I also found a BBC interview with Belkin.

CES 2014 Second Day of the Show

Latest update: The T-Mobile event, the link to the full video stream is now available. Short version preview of what to expect by TheVerge. Hope the full event recording will be made available soon. Pretty heavy stuff, as they will be paying ETFs of other providers, if the people switch to T-Mobile. Many newly announced devices and concepts have been tested by lots of tech bloggers and the posts are flooding the networks. Also most of the keynote streams from Monday and Tuesday are available now. To be honest, the most useful video clips were mostly produced by TheVerge techblog team. I pretty much like their way to interact with the new technolgies and their open opinions on the new technologies presented. But also Sascha Pallenberg and his team from Mobile Geeks is very active and improving in bringing up actual video clips. It is also one of the few well known tech blogsites fully publishing in German, which I appreciate a lot ;-) He has set up a nice best of the days v

CES 2014 The first official day of the show

Following announcement monday today the exhibition has opened. All the announced devices can now be found at all the booths and special theme areas. It was not too many new things coming up today so I want to focus on some few things I found interesting. LG is trying to revive WebOS they bought out of HP. They seem to be serious about introducing a complete new UI concept to all of their new TV sets. As there is not much room let to differentiate in mass markets this might be a way to keep sales on high levels. The UI was only demoed so far and you could not interact yourself with the remote, but the screen animation look interesting and maybe users will like it. We will have to wait and see. Meanwhile LG shows the new UI live at their booth. Make up your mind yourself. Sphero 2B A real nice extension of the Sphero product line. One of the nicest gadgets I heard of for CES 2014 so far. Seems to be faster and even cheaper than the Sphero 2.0 ball. Also found a nice vid

CES 2014 ist going to start this week. First press conferences started yesterday and continue on Monday. My "pick of the day" is the Peeble Steel, the new Pebble watch in stainless steel design.  See pics and first impressions  here  or watch Sascha Pallenberg showing the new models. The "blackout of the day" for sure was Michael Bay's stumbling out of the presentation at the Samsung press conference. See this extract below. I will post any video stream I can find of the most important events taking place. Any CES day you will find 5 must see things at CNET , too. The first stream I found is the one of the Nvida press conference. You can watch the full clip here  Watch live video from NVIDIA on TwitchTV To be continued. LG press conf. just started. Think, there will be no stream on this, but at least TheVerge is doing some good Live blogging on the event  . Samsung is on schedule, too. A good overview on the upcoming activities this Monday
